What

An ENERGY STAR Benchmarking Analysis an integral part of the energy performance process and the easiest way to get a snapshot comparison of your building’s energy performance compared to similar buildings nationally. Often, this is a key first step in identifying how to proceed with improving the overall energy performance of a facility.

Benchmarking provides a reference point for gauging the effectiveness of current energy management practices and assessing for continuous and future energy improvements.

IMPACTenergy ENERGY STAR Benchmarking provides guidance to successfully save energy, assess current operating energy efficiency, and help make informed management and investment decisions. This can help businesses reduce their energy cost from 10-40 percent through effective energy management practices that involve:

•  Energy audit to assess energy performance
•  Setting energy-saving goals
•  Evaluating progress

Why

Demand for energy performance benchmarking is growing. The number of commercial facilities using benchmarking has increased by 50 percent in the past two years.(EPA)  This process helps facilities earn ENERGY STAR by achieving superior performance. These buildings on average use 35 percent less energy and emit 35 percent less carbon dioxide while providing the same or better level of service and comfort.

Benchmarking provides organizations information on how they use energy, where they use it, and what drives their energy consumption. It is an essential component in identifying opportunities to increase profitability by lowering energy and operating cost.

Gain Recognition by earning ENERGY STAR
Earn recognition for your building’s energy performance across your entire portfolio. Share best practices, become a leader for energy improvement, top energy performance, or simply gain exposure through development of success stories showcasing a directory of achievements for clients.

Process

IMPACTenergy manages the entire ENERGY STAR process, including administrating the Portfolio Manager tool, inspection of the property, and submission of ENERGY STAR application. After benchmarking is complete, we provide an analysis of energy efficiency through an energy audit and provide suggestions regarding increase energy efficiency.

Successful benchmarking uses the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager tool to track a building’s energy consumption and to receive an energy performance rating.  Portfolio Manager aids in benchmarking buildings’ energy performance, set energy management goals, and identify strategic opportunities for savings and recognition opportunities. This tool streamlines the building’s portfolio for energy and water data, and track key consumption, performance, and cost information. The Portfolio Manager can:

•  Track multiple energy and water meters for each facility
•  Customize meter names and key information
•  Compare the facility relative to past performance
•  View percent improvement in weather-normalized source energy
•  Monitor energy and water costs
•  Enter operating characteristics and tailor to each space use category •
•  within the building

The Portfolio Manager tracks energy performance, which translates into a national energy performance rating system for buildings. Energy performance is rated on a scale of 1–100 relative to similar buildings nationwide. A rating of 50 indicates that the building performs better than 50 percent of all similar buildings nationwide, while a rating of 75 indicates that the building performs better than 75 percent of all similar buildings nationwide. Buildings that score 75 or higher are eligible to earn the ENERGY STAR certification, which indicates that they have a superior level of energy performance.
